How to fix shade net?
Here are some tips for fixing holes and repairs on shade netting:
- Inspect for small holes – Check netting carefully for any small punctures or tears early before they enlarge.
- Clean edges – Use scissors or knife to tidy edges of holes by cutting away any jagged or dirty parts of the fabric.
- Select patch material – Cut a piece of similar or heavier grade shade cloth larger than the hole for patches.
- Use adhesive tape – Duct tape works in a pinch but outdoor vinyl tape is best. Completely cover the back of the patch.
- Apply patch – Center the tape-backed patch material over the hole on the “front” side of the net. Smoothe out any air bubbles.
- Reinforce with stitches – For larger holes, use strong nylon thread to sew around the edge of the patch 2-3 times for reinforcement.
- Cover with tape – On the back, apply tape completely over the stitching and edges of the patch for a waterproof seal.
- Check tension – Ensure netting surrounding the repair area maintains proper tension once fixed to withstand stresses.
- Monitor repair – Periodically check repaired areas, especially after rain or wind, in case any retouching is needed over time.
Regular inspection and prompt repairs helps maximize the lifespan of shade netting structures.
