When covering with grass-proof cloth, orchards with different conditions have different covering times. In the orchards with warm winter, shallow permafrost and strong wind, it is better to mulch in late autumn and early winter, immediately after applying base fertilizer in the orchard in autumn, and finish before the soil freezes. When is the right time to lay the weed-proof cloth?
For orchards that are colder in winter, deep in permafrost, and less windy, it is better to mulch in spring, immediately after the topsoil with a thickness of 5 cm is thawed, the sooner the better.
The laying width of the grass-proof cloth should be 70%-80% of the tree crown and branch expansion. The total width of the ground cloth for newly planted saplings should be 1.0m, that is, a ground cloth with a width of 50cm is laid on each side of the trunk; The ground cloth with a width of 70cm is covered with cloth on both sides of the trunk. Choose ground cloth with a width of 1.0m for trees in the full fruit period, and cover both sides of the trunk.
Before the weed control cloth is laid, the ground weeds should be cleared, especially the weeds with thick stalks, to prevent damage to the ground cloth. Secondly, to level the ground, it is required that the ground at the trunk and the ground outside the ground cloth have a certain slope, with a height difference of 5cm, so that the rainwater can flow quickly to the rain collecting ditch on both sides and be effectively absorbed by the root system, so as to prevent the rainwater from being left on the surface to evaporate and waste due to the lack of slope of the ground cloth.
Line according to the size of the canopy and the width of the ground cloth chosen. The line is parallel to the row direction. Use the measuring rope to draw two straight lines on both sides of the tree tray. The distance from the trunk is less than the width of the ground cloth by 10cm.
When laying grass-proof cloth, you should bury both sides first, and then connect the middle. Open a trench along the previously drawn line, with a depth of 5-10cm, and bury one side of the ground cloth in the trench. The middle is connected with “U”-shaped iron nails or iron wires that encapsulate the apple carton. The operation speed is fast and the connection is firm. It should be overlapped by 3-5cm to prevent the gap between the ground cloth and the breeding of weeds.
Since the ground cloth automatically shrinks and tensions when it sees the sun, when laying the ground cloth, it is only necessary to simply lay it, which is different from laying the ground film. For orchards with drip irrigation equipment, the drip irrigation pipe can be placed under the ground cloth. One drip irrigation pipe can be placed in each row of the young orchard close to the tree trunk, and one drip irrigation pipe can be placed along the outer side of the ground cloth in the mature orchard.
Excavation of rain-collecting ditch after weed-proof cloth is laid: After the ground cloth is covered, a rain-collecting ditch with a depth of 30 cm and a width of 30 cm is dug along the row direction at 3 cm away from the edge of the ground cloth on both sides of the ridge surface. Rainwater is evenly distributed.
When the terrain in the garden is uneven and the rain-gathering ditch is long, a rung can be built in the rain-gathering ditch every 2-3 trees. In addition, conditional orchards can cover the rainwater ditch with a layer of finely chopped crop straw to further improve the moisture retention effect. Rain collection ditches are not required for orchards with drip irrigation equipment.
Although the cost of grass-proof cloth is higher than that of plastic film, it is also a more advanced and environmentally friendly way of grass-proofing. We can try to use it during the planting process. If it is used reasonably, it may get better results.
